i have 1989 4.3 with cobra outdrive. its not pumping water from the foot to the engine. i removed the hose coming from the outdrive to the power steering cooler and ran the engine in the lake no water comes out. i replaced impeller and still not getting water. can anybody tell me what the problem is ?

The hose kinked at the transom that comes in from the drive, or a clog in the outside of the transom at the fitting that feeds the hose.

See if the garden hose is on must be 45-80 psi no water being forced up then it's a clog.

Old pieces impeller maybe, sand, mussels only the shadow knows.

what about the tube in the foot that connects upper and lower unit i didnt replace the rubber boots on each end or the guide when i put on upper unit. i just used the old ones

if i remember right there are o-rings also ?

Did you check the hose or fitting that goes thru the transom both sides? Can you run water backwards down the hose from the inside see what comes out the inlet, maybe you can break the clog loose. Shunt the garden hose to the hose and turn on the water full blast, water got to come out if not you know where it is the clog.

" Backflush that mother " I can hear my mentor as i wrote it.

I don't want to even type this but i'm like a doctor you asked, and i assume you want the truth?

After you tear it all down again, take a magnifying glass and see if you see any cracks, should come out the inlets not the the prop.

Think about it a second, i bet you already deduced that water should not come out the prop if your backflushing.

I don't ever like to see someone with problems.

Maybe someone here with a better mechanical mind can help and i'm wrong i truly wish i am.
