"I have a 1978 Chris craft Tournament that was repowered 2 years ago with 2 170 rebuilt mercruiser's. I understand that they are 1986 engines. The port engine cooks the choke wire once the ignition key is on. It also seems that the coil has too much voltage going to it .We have replaced the coil, selenoid and today will replace the audio warning horn assembly. Has anyone experienced this and what is the solution??"

changed coils to internal resistor coils and now do not have an a choke wire problem. Instead it seems that the polarity has been reversed on the port engine. I cannot start it and the coil has power when the ignition key is off and no power when the key is on. the Starboard engine works fine. Also it seems that it makes no difference whether the coil with the internal resistors are grounded or not ? Several friends have indicated that the coil should not be grounded and that the black wire from the distributor should go to the negative side of the coil

Thanks
