hi all, i have a mercury 20hp 9544970 in a 14 foot tinnie and im wondering if someone can tell me if this can be converted to electric start?
If yes any idea of the part numbers and cost involved? cheers

Electric start is available.-----------The cost depends on how patient you are in finding used parts to install yourself.----The most cost effective way will be to find a donor motor.--------------New parts may not be available and if they are they are pricy.

Your best bet is a call to a Mercury dealer to get that latest info.------E-bay or Craiglist can be a good scource.-------Your location does matter as these motors are more popular in some areas.

Assuming your flywheel already has the teeth (I think they all do) then alll you need to locate is the starter. You can then use any old auto solenoid and a simple push button to trigger it.

On mine, I locate the solenoid in the boat (instead of on the motor) for simplicity. And don't worry about a charging system--even a small, lawn mower battery will start it 40 times without recharging.

thanks for the advice guys.
i think i'll neeed some type of bracket for the SM?
Yeah, i'm not to worried about a charging system , for the moment anyhow.

If you look up the parts for your motor you may find that the starter motor and " bracket " are one and the same.------No seperate bracket.
