Convert to Alternator Question

Hola!

So I'm looking at these conversion kits (my magnets are loose and creating sparks at higher RPMs so I want them out!) but $600 for a conversion kit?!

Can't I just buy an old Ford Alternator from a junkyard and fabricate a bracket out of a good piece of steel? Am I missing something? I mean they all push out 12v, right?

Thanks!

Nick

better off with the gm one and make the bracket or if its only the regulator that went bad you could check on the motorcycle regulator/rectifier for the harley FX model

May we safely assume that you are wanting to dump the Merc 470 OEM charging system?
If so, you can buy a ready-to-go conversion kit that incorporates the Delco 10si Marine version alternator.

One kit places the alternator down low on the Starboard side.

Another kit places it high.

The 10si Marine version can be had in what they call a "one wire" unit, or in the style that is externally regulated.
The one-wire unit must be rev'd up to self excite. Once excited, it will remain excited until shut down and start-up again.
