"As you may be aware from my previous posts, my "CDI" went bad. I looked at the part number on the unit and the part number is 88071 0833 which as far as I can tell reflects a Mercury Regulator Rectifier. The Yamaha schematics for electrical show that this should be a CDI on this year motor. Production date 7/03 (I believe its an 04 model) as I can't find a 40TLRC mfgd in 03.
Anyhow, it is running part number 88301 and has been until the melt down. The cost difference between a "CDI" for this motor and the regulator rectifier thats on it now, is quite significant. $100 rectifier and $500 CDI.
Can anyone clarify whats going on here, whay I have a Mercury R/R and not a CDI? Is this ok?"
