Compression

1989GT150V6

New member
Hi - first post on this forum so apologies if this has been covered.

Just bought a Four Winns Horizon 180 that has a 1989 GT150 V6 on it that I'm keen to keep and restore. I have tested the compression across each cylinder and am getting about 65psi per cylinder.

They are all very similar which I understand is good but does this sound a bit low?

thanks for any advice.

You might be able to rent/borrow one from auto parts store, but those readings do seem low.

Thanks guys for the replies.

Yes I did wonder if my compression tester was accurate as the readings were so consistent.

I will borrow/hire a better one and see if this provides better readings.

I have replaced the plugs, thermostats & pressure relief valves, changed the gearbox oil and cleaned the carbs and inlets. Is there anything else that as a keen diy man I should/could do to the motor?

Any advice gratefully received.
