Compression

Depends. What year/model Johnson? Basically, when you run a compression test, you are looking for uniformity among the cylinders, i. e., all four cylinders about the same psi (at least within 10% of each other).

If there's a hard and fast rule about a paticular motors compression I have'nt seen one or read one. A loose reading of around a hundred lbs with a comparioson of 5%-10% between each cylinder is good. It's a good bet that any two compression gauges will give you two different readings, so as long as you get comparible readings between the cylinders on your motor, the actual reading is less important. If it comes down to having an exact reading, find someone who has spent the most money on their gauge, and go with that, there's a direct connection between money spent and quality.
