I need to do a compression tes

I need to do a compression test on my 120 johnson v4-vro.

Does anyone know if my local parts store might let me use/rent the needed tool?
Is the test device the same for a car/boat motor?
And where do i find instructions to do it myself.

"Auto Zone no need to even by

"Auto Zone no need to even by one. They loan you the thing for up to a week.
1. Fully charge battery.
2. Start engine and warm her up.
3. Remove all spark plugs and disconnect fuel line.
4. Screw guage into #1.
6. Open throttle all the way. Turn engine over until reading on guage stops increasing or 5 times, whichever is more.
7. Repeat #5 & #6 for all cylinders.

All psi readings should be within a 10-15% span."

"Recommend using a remote star

"Recommend using a remote start switch directly on the solenoid. The reason for this is because you can spin the engine over with the key OFF, thereby disabling the ignition.
Remember, with all the plugs out, you will be spraying fuel/air out those open plug holes. Any spark at that point could kick off a fire.
Key OFF (or lanyard pulled) will kill the ignition, limiting the fire possibility."

I am working on a 1990 175hp Evinrude. Will need lots of help and wonder which motor manuals are the best for instructions. Have heard some are downright incorrect so I don't want to get frustrated because of a bad manual.
Thanks for your assistance.
