"Hi,
I plan on compression testing the Mercruiser 233 hp, 2 bbl. I understand that after setting up the test, that you open the carb all the way before turning the ignition. How about the fuel line - am I supposed to pull it from the carb and plug it? Or do I let the fuel flow on the testing?
Thanks,
Dave"

"No need to worry about that ,

"No need to worry about that ,fuel should not flow .but all your plugs come out and the coil is disconnected"

"I always do them warm after you've run the motor. While it's running check the gauges like temp for wild swings, oil pressure for sporadic activity. Make sure it runs smooth without hesitations or missing and you're getting your REVs. Check the oil for water. Then do a dry comp test. If you notice any big differences more than 10% then do a wet test with a spoon full of oil in each cylinder.

I don't think the carb has anything to do with compression."

On some naturally (espired

On some naturally (espired)(brain cramp) engines you need to open the throttle blades to allow maximum air to each cyclinder under test utherwise you may get a low reading.

Needs to be done on HD'S for sure

Put it this way. If you hold the butterfly's open (choke and throttle) it wont hurt anything.
