I have an Optimax 250 2004 and when I turn the ignition I lose all electrical power. The only way to get power again is to disconnect the battery and re-connect. The overheat alarm was going off so I changed both thermostats and the water pump. Then I was running again to check the overheat situation and the engine just died after about 5 minutes. Now, every time I try to start, I hear the starter click and the power goes out.
I checked all the fuses, relays, and looked for shorts and bare wire, all good. I changed the ignition switch and starter relay that powers the starter solenoid. I also checked the neutral and safety kill switches, both good. Because I can only restore power by disconnecting the battery, I'm thinking something is being held in and disconnecting the battery is releasing it.
Can the starter solenoid do this? That is the only thing I haven't changed. I haven't had any signs of the starter going bad, so it wasn't my first thought, and it happened right after the engine died for no apparent reason. Any help or ideas would be helpful.
