" I am trying to replace the water pump on a 1987 Johnson 60 HP outboard. I can't get the foot or lower unit off to get access. There are no access panels to disconect the shift rod, just a phillips screw near the water intake screens. I have all the bolts out but the foot will not slide down. Do I have to remove the foot or the whole lower unit? The model and serial number plate is blank. Any help or a copy of the pages from a shop manual would be greatly appreciated. "

Look under the Carb. and you will be able to see the shift rod...free the rod up and the lower unit will come down...TommyG
