"My 50 foot Gibson is on Pickw

"My 50 foot Gibson is on Pickwick lake on the Tennessee in Northern Mississippi. I leave it in the water all year and use it. There is little spring maintenance in that I keep it up year round. Having said all that, I am going to get a small taste of cold weather boating tonight. It will be 7 degrees F tonight at Pickwick and I will be on the boat. If I like it a lot maybe I will move further north.

Actually my reason for going it to make certain that she don't freeze tonight.

"Chuck:

what is it, specifically, that you are worried about freezing and what is the plan to prevent it?"

"My winterization consists of

"My winterization consists of draining the potable water lines and electric heat in the engine bildge compartment. Everything is fine unless the shore power goes out. Although in over twenty years with this boat it has never happened, it would be costly if it did. I simply stay on the boat if it gets below 15 degrees F to assure that I have power. If it goes out, I will fire up the generator until it comes back.

Of course the other thing on the boat to keep from freezing is myself.

I just arrived on the boat and everything is fine now for now. Tomorrow I will go for a cruise on the Tennessee River since I am already here. It will be cold but pretty.

"Chuck,

You are a tough guy. My basement is about 62 degrees today without the heat on and it is about 22 outside this afternoon. I am freezing. As I have gotten older, I just cannot seem to tolerate the cold yet, when we lived in northern Vermont, -40F was common and no problem.

Good Luck..."

18F out and going down in DC. Was on my boat as well doing the same drill as Chuck... checking lines and heaters. Plenty of heat on it and all hatches to the cabin open for air flow. Had a good cigar too.

"Al, my 67 year old bones don't take the cold like they used to. I have to admit that I have a little more fat to keep me warm.

David, I was in Baltimore yesterday and it was really nice. The Alberta Clipper really put the cool on. The weather man here now says 2 degrees F tonight. My heaters are controlling at 68 degrees in the cabin and 38 degrees in the engine compartment. All is well.

Chuck"

"Good man, Chuck. You aren't using the reverse cycle heat system are you? I shut that down a month ago."
