Cold engine lever stuck

Got Bass

New member
Hi, new to this forum. Have a 1990 johnson 225hp j225txss and the cold start lever will move about an inch forward but will not accelerate.Any help would be appreiciated, thanks.

Cold start lever moving forward?? Has this worked okay in the past?

I assume you're speaking of a procedure to cold start the engine?

Describe your control system.... Regular OMC side mounted control box, top mounted control on center console, what?

The boat is a 89 grady white overnighter, yes it was working. The control in moving froward,This lever controls the high speed idle.It is a side console, while sitting at the helm you pull the lever out towards you to engage.boat has been sitting about 6wks.Sorry took so long to reply,I posted before wwork this morning and I just got home.Might be 24hrs. before I"m on line again.

http://www.marineengine.com/parts/j...XESS&manufacturer=Evinrude§ion=Remote+Control Is this your control they are fairly simple to take apart and put back together it is more than likely a worn nylon bushing. Take it apart and give it a thorough inspection and replace anything thats worn. The bushings and washers are cheap but the hard parts can get spendy. It would be a good time to replace the cables while you have it apart they should move smooth and easy. Use a good marine lithium grease (liberally) when you put it back together. Clean all the electrical terminals and connectors good also.

Thaat looks like the one, thanks for all the help.Just finished working on the carbs and now is a good time to deal with it.Plenty of time before striper season.
