Coil vs. Powerpack J70TLESB

Hi y'all...

To replace coil or power pack on a 70hp Johnson J70TLESB, that is the question?

1. number one spark plug receiving good spark via spark tester.

2. rang out (3) coil's w/ meter - each well grounded & +/- 240 ohms
each, primary vs. secondary.

3. removed power pack, sand papered terminals, re-installed - now spark plug's
one and three have good spark via tester.

Does this sound like a bad power pack, coil or connection?

Any ideas? Thanks...

I have a 1987 110 with somewhat the same problem one plug on each bank firing. I am going to start a new post to describe what I found and maybe will help you. I did assemble a peak voltage tester for a digital VOM have extra parts that I could send you if interested you would need VOM leads, leads for piercing wires, and small plastic box.

Thank you paulw that's very kind! I cleaned all connections, grounds etc. Now have spark to all three plugs. New issue, engine won't start unless I shoot some starter fluid in carb, then runs fine. I will continue troubleshooting...

Dont use carb cleaner..there is no oil in it and you are starting with pistons dry....use a regular oil gas mix...
