Coil trouble

I noticed last summer that my motor wasn't running as it normally did so I bought new plugs, and checked the timing; when I ran the motor up to the throttle pickup line it was alright but after that to full throttle the timing mark jumped all over the place.
The motor ran for the rest of the summer then I pulled it out for storage and checked out the ignition system; when I pulled out the coil the core was broken into small and large pieces. This is probably the reason for the odd performance thru the summer. So if you have erratic firing and performance check the coil!

You're damn lucky it ran that well! I've seen lots of perfectly good appearing coils that would ran okay at idle but mess up under load.

When it was at WOT the speed would sometimes go to normal then at other times drop slightly, also the fuel consumption increased.
