Coil problems 1978 165

Hi:
I have an 1978 250 ci 165 horse gm for some reason I cannot get the coil to spark . I have put a new coil on and checked the leads and have a good ground and 12volts to the coil but no joyAny ideas?

you must check the points for proper open / close ...set the point gap to about .017 inch ...using dwell meter when cranking engine watch for the dwell to be around 30 deg...

if the points do not ground out the coil primary the secondary will not produce the spark ..

same if the coil is always grounded out ...

Thanks I'll check the points over the winter they may have picked up some rust, will probbly instal new.

Condenser will short out and kill the spark.
