coil or powerpack problems 1997 15 hp

I have a 1997 15hp johnson. At the end of last year this motor when first started only runs on the top cylinder if you keep it running at trolling speed for about 15 min the bottom cylinder will start working and the motor will run fine from slow to full throttle until you let it cool down. Is this a coil or powerpack problem? How can I test either of these thanks for any help

Re: coil or powerpack problems

Remove the power-pack, clean all ground connections and move the ground cable to the UPPER screw.
This normally solves the problem, if ignition related.
However do a compression test as well just to be sure.
If a coil problem, they normally fail when getting hot.

Re: coil or powerpack problems

I tried cleaning all connections on power pack and coil, moved the ground to the top bolt on coil still didn't have any fire on bottom plug. I swapped the leads from the power pack to the coil and had fire on the bottom but not on top. Replaced the power pack which solved the problem both cylinders now firing motor purrs like a kitten again. thanks for any an all help and advice
