coil inductive kickback???

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have a 110 9.8 hp merc. Not sure of year but S/N starts with 7 and it points to a Canadian make. Here's whats going on.

Motor will fire and run but as it runs it kicks and jerks (mainly on low RPM/Idle). Then u feel a big jerk/kick and it will run perfect but in the wrong direction. Meaning the pistons are moving in the reverse direction, the water will stop peeing, when i put the gear in forward nothing happens, when i put it in reverse if goes forward.

When I start it again the motor will run flawlessly (idle and acceleration) on cylinder 1 (upper) when #2 plug is removed. If i reconnect #2 then it starts jerking/kicking and the above happens. If i accelerate it will keep running but still jerks/kicks.

If I start it with both plugs in and remove #1 it dies. It will start with #1 plugged in only but will not start with #2 only.

Im assuming its the switch box thinking that its giving spark at the wrong time to cylinder #2 but not 100% sure. Another member in another thread "bad switch box" mentioned a bad coil thus inducing the kickback. im wondering if the coil is the issue and not the switch. Im not positive what an induced kickback means but i feel my motor is kicking back.

Hope someone can help!!!

Thank u,

Jakub
