"well i've just received my new techmate scan tool in the mail and what do you know ,the pig tail they told me would work with my 1996 volvo penta 5ol efi ford engine doesn't fit the connection on the motor, techmate said look for the data connection and the shop book only has a EEC test connection. what could i be doing wrong,tach mate said call volvo to ask where is the data connector is located and the number online is a fax's line, could this be any more difficult. i love working on my boat and real like reading and learning about my engine as my life as well as my fishen bud's depend on it . if you could take some time and help me out i would really apperate and of coures i will start with calling techmate back"

As far as I know, the T

As far as I know, the Techmate can't/won't connect to any ford based engine. In fact the Ford EEC system does not have any data monitoring capabilites, you can only read/clear trouble codes and perform a few system tests.

The good news is you can return the Techmate tool and purchase a Ford EECIV diagnostic tool at most autoparts store for a lot less than you paid for the Techmate."

"well that makes perfect sense now david, did some more reading on the subject and talked with tecmate they were very helpful and now i'm on the right track i'll look in to buying the EECIV just wanted to see if any codes pop up (information is king)"
