Cobra trim guage not wokring

I have a 91 Four Winns Freedom 190 with a 4 cylinder 3.0 liter OMC /Cobra with power trim. All of a sudden my power trim gauge quit working. All other gauges show normal when I turn on the key but the needle on the power trim gauge goes all the way down to the left like there is a dead short somewhere. I checked all the wiring in the shift lever, and the wiring behind the gauges, everything looks normal. The power trim works fine, why won't the gauge show anything. It worked fine that last time we had athe boat in the water a few months ago. Is there wiring somewhere near the power trim motor that could be shorted?
