This is an easy one for somebody. I am looking at a 1995 Chris Craft w/5.8 Ltr EFI Cobra. The owner doesn't know the Horsepower. Can you help?

"My 351 is rated at 235, and it's carburated, so I'd have to imagine it's higher than that. Hmmmmm...."

"I just found this:All 5.7 engines in 1996 were GM 350 cu in engines. Volvo also made a 5.8L engine (5.8FL, 5.8Fi, and 5.8FSi). These were Ford 351 cu in engines. The horsepower ratings for these were 230-235HP (FL), 255HP (Fi), and 265HP (FSi).

Donco; the Volvo/OMC joint venture was inked in 1993, and drives began shipping in 1994. To my knowledge, all Volvo engines since 1994 have had Joint Venture Volvo drives. There were two drives produced by the Joint Venture, but with different suffixes; the SX-S, SX-C, SX-C1, SX-M, as well as the DP-S and DP-SM.

In various years, the SX was known as a Volvo SX, and sometimes as a Cobra SX. However, these two designations are essentially the same drive. Its just that at one point, Volvo used the SX Cobra designation to recognize that the SX incorporates some OMC Cobra design characteristics.

Fact is, the only difference between a Volvo SX and Volvo Cobra SX is a sticker that says Cobra SX. Pull off the Cobra SX sticker and viola! you have a Volvo SX.

I would imagine that the differences between the OMC and the Volvo engines would be minor, so the horsepower ratings mentioned at the top would be pretty close."
