Clueless newbie need advice!

Hi everyone, I’m sorry if this is really simple but basically I have a 15hp year 2000 Johnson which was factory restricted to 10hp. It’s a rope pull start, model number J10RGTSSS. The starter rope snapped so I tried the emergency start by winding a rope on to the notches on the flywheel. It didn’t work and instead it broke something off which then fell straight in the sea. There is now a plastic rod with a socket which is flapping about and is still attached to the throttle at one end. Question is, does socket (X) clip on to the ball (A) or the screw (B) or none of the above?! I’ve ordered

the ‘carb follower and roller’ part shown in the other picture, hopefully this allows the socket on the rod to connect to whatever it’s supposed to connect to… If you could take a look at the pictures I’d be very grateful for some advice.

Hi thank you so much for the reply. As it stands, no matter if the throttle is open or closed, the rod is too long to get it on to ‘A’. So I assume I need a connector, is the carb follower and roller the part I need? I’m hoping the rod attaches to the follower and that clips on to A….

Welcome. "A" will move / rotate to get the proper distance to snap on the throttle connection. The other part, carb follower, is probably catching on the ramp, so you will have to check that. Your new carburator follower has to have the screw transferred over to it also. Be careful they are a bit fragile.

Thank you!! It’s fixed! Haha!!! The mighty Johnson lives! All I had to do was rotate that thing and snap the rod back on and we’re cooking! Honestly, can’t thank you enough. You’ve just saved me £3000 for a new outboard.

Another problem now (of course) it won’t rev. Twisting the tiller handle causes the wire to move backwards and forwards. The cable pulls the plastic link rod and returns the cam plate to idle but it just won’t push the cam plate forward to open the throttle… any ideas? At least it’s running now though!

Ok yeah thanks. I mean it looks pretty broken even to my untrained eye. I’ll get a new cable and see if I can fit it! Cheers mate.
