Closed cooled vs raw water

I have purchased a aq131 that

I have purchased a aq131 that states it is a closed cooled fresh water engine. I am putting it in a 1986 bayliner capri with original 275 stern drive does anyone know if this model was originally closed or open cooled? and if so can I just run to fresh water inlet off stern drive with a thermostat in place

"The sterndrive should have a gear ratio of 2.15:1, which is the correct one for the 4 cylinder engines. Also, the exhaust pipe in the transom shield should be slightly sloped so that it aligns with the engine exhaust manifold. Also, make sure that the number of splines in the bellhousing primary shaft and drive u-joint yoke are identical (either 10 splines or 27 splines)."
