"hey guys,

i have twin aq130c's on my cruiser, and i pulled the drain plugs (2 of them on each engine) on the engines today to get ready for the winter.

On my port engine, when i pulled the block plug, i got NO WATER coming out of it!

On my starboard engine i got a good amount of water out of it. The starboard engine was draining for a good 2-3 minutes!

I stuck a screwdriver in the drain cock hole of the port engine to try and free anything that may have been clogging it, but nothing!

I drained the water out of the oil cooler fine, but is there another way to drain the water out of the block? this engine is not a closed cooling unit, so i know there is water in it....but how do i get to it? and what would prevent it from coming out of the drain plug?

Any help would be greatly appreciated."

That is odd. I would be tempted to use a little air pressure through the system to see if that pushes any water out of the drain hole and/or exhaust.

I would try blowing air into the drain cock to see if it losens anything that may be blocking the water.

"or use a wire to make sure yo

"or use a wire to make sure you get up in the hole and knock any scale out of the way so the water flows out.

Careful with the air pressure, btw, as you don't want to put much pressure in there."

"I tried the wire yesterday.

"I tried the wire yesterday. It didnt help, but the tip of the wire, when it came out had gunk on the tip, which tells me that it may be a bad build up.

It makes me wonder... i've had some issues with this engine overheating in the past. It was never anything major, the temp would just raise to the red occasionally, but i always caught it in time before any damage was inflicted.

Usually slipping the engine into neutral and revving the engine would knock it back down. I always thought is was an intermittent impeller issue. Now that I think about it, maybe the cooling system was getting clogged up.

Good thing I caught it now.

I'll give the compressed air a try in a few dayy, and hopefully that'll do the trick....but it sounds like i need to flush the cooling system out.

Anyone have any instruction on that?

Thanks guys, you rock!"

I once had the same problem. I

I once had the same problem. I used a wire coat hanger. The "twisted" end.. It acted as sort of an auger to clear out the mess. Be careful not to get the wire stuck in there.

"well, i tried the compressed

"well, i tried the compressed air.... i tried a coat hanger, a screwdriver.... I cant get any water out of the engine. I pulled the impeller line off and put air through it, to no avail...

I figured that if compressed air wouldnt push anything out, that running water into it was useless.

The worse news is that I am heading to work now, and it is supposed to hit 29 degrees tonight. So, we'll see what happens i guess. I am hoping that some how the water drained out....if not, I guess I'll have the pleasure of learning about engine removal and reinstallation next spring.

wish me luck."
