thanks in advance for taking the time to respond..
i replaced the control box... new ignition trigger, repaired stator wire, cleaned the carbs (more than once), replaced the fuel hoses... compression is perfect...
finally got it to start a idle a few weeks ago.. .went back the other day.. once again no idle... dumped the old fuel, got some fresh fuel... got it to start and idle... well sort of... like a dummy i messed around with one of the set screws... fortunately its only the idle stop... so now i need to get it right again... and get the cables connected correctly.. fishing is coming up soon...
details...
i have the 4 cylinder dual carb 50hp circa 1985.. ser. 658... seems to be the forlorn child in all the service manuals...
my question regards the engagement of the throttle cam to the pickup arm on the top carburetor when the engine is idling...
i am guessing it should either be just making contact or just be shy of making contact... if it contacts then the butterflies start to open vs running on just the idle circuit ... yes??
i just replaced the controls and am having a hard time to get it to idle... and like a moron i messed with the idle stop when i should have left it alone...
then my next question is on the pre-load... engage from the control. then back to neutral.. then test with a piece of paper between the idle adjustment screw and the stop on the case... then turn the barrel which way?? seloc says moving barrel closer to cable end guide.. what is the cable end guide?
and finally... the play where the brass portion of the cable slips into the plastic... is there supposed to be free play? i am talking about this thing..

thanks again for your help...
