Circulating Pump Failure

After converting my starboard engine to FWC this weekend I was scratching my head trying to figure out why it was overheating. Then I pulled the circulating pump and found this. This is what happens when you use the fresh water model circulating pump in a raw water cooling setup. I believe the raw water cooling pump is supposed to have a stainless steel shaft.

The motor was never overheating when raw water cooled. I think the raw water pump was supplying enough flow to the block and masking the circulating pump failure.
