"I recently purchased a 1956 C
"I recently purchased a 1956 Century inboard which has the original Chrysler 135 hp (M47S) engine.
I went to get a new title yesterday and was told that my state needs not only the hull number but also the engine number. When the engine was repainted several years ago, the painter didn't bother to mask the serial plate and now there is a thick coat of paint on it. The plate is located on the starboard side (right side)towards the rear of the engine on a horizontal surface. I can't read anything due to the thick paint.
However, I have the original Chrysler operating manual in which a previous owner has written serial number: "M47S - S - RF-21771-S". I don't know if the serial plate has just "21771" on it, or if it also has some of the letters written above on it also. Can someone tell me what the plate normally would show?
Thank you."
