"I have a 1946 Century utility

"I have a 1946 Century utility w/ a 93hp Chrys. Ace eng and Paragon trans. I am pumping oil out of the breather on the top of the trans. At idle or a 2K static no shaft turn, no oil comes out, when running at 3K in water, it will push oil out of the breather. First thought was over full, ran 3 times dropped oil to below full and still it comes. The dipsticks washer is loose so I have pushed it dowm to the bend and the oil level shows slightly below full. Is there supposed to be a bafel (sp) inside or something to keep it inside or what.I have pulled the plugs and they are clean, no oil. The eng. and trans use the same oil combined. Frustrated. I`m tired of cleaning the Bilge. Cody"

"Sounds like a plugged breathe

"Sounds like a plugged breather on the engine. You might rig up a PVC system. Take a manifold vacuum source, run it through a PVC valve (NAPA) and plug it into the crankcase, posibly in the oil filler hole.

Jeff"

"Jeff, thanks for your quick r

"Jeff, thanks for your quick response. I have checked the oil filler cap and the screw is free, there is a spring on it to let pressure out. I am going to drain all the oil out them measure it to see if exceeds the 8 qts. over time there may have been oil left I wasn`t aware of. However I have purged at least a qt. over the past 3 times in the water. The last time on a 1.5 hr. run it still came out. Is there another breather on the engine I don`t know about??? Thanks Cody"

"If my memory serves me right,

"If my memory serves me right, I recall a copper breather pipe that goes from the valve train cover to a port in the carburetor (intake manifold). Is that intact and clear?

"Jeff, now I feel like a big dummy, I forgot there is another vent in front of the carb, which is a zenith, it is supposed to have a oil bath filter but I dont have one so I put on a regular spark arrestor, there is a bracket next to the carb and it IS a vent. I will check that. Thanks"

"Chrysler Ace eng and trans 19

"Chrysler Ace eng and trans 1946, does someone have one or a picture of the top of the trans manual type, I have been told that my breather is backward, meaning facing aft, it should be facing forward and which way the printing faces`s. My leak is supposedly caused by this.
I would like to see one so I can determin what to do. Tks Cody"

"Noel, tks, I will try it. Yo

"Noel, tks, I will try it. You also suggested the tube that ran from the breather to the carb,
you are correct, I have one it is a straight tube from the breather to the intake on the carb.
It is about 7" long and the intake sucks up the blowby. I will get back to you re the Email. Tks. cody"

"Noel, I looked at the E you g

"Noel, I looked at the E you gave me and was able to talk to Al at Drake. He answered all my questions. The writing faces aft and the vent should face forward, so thats why it is pumping oil. Now the writing faces forward and the vent aft. He also gave me some other tips. Thanks again. Their E is [email protected], Cody"
