Chrysler 318 heat exchanger problem

"When started this spring, there was a whining noise and noticed severe water leak from top cap joint of vertically placed external heat exchanger. Engine seemed to run fine except for water filling up engine compartment. When I removed top hose from heat exchanger cap, the cap itself came off exchanger. Is there a way to re-connect cap? If so, is there anything else I should do before re-connecting?(please see attached pictures) Thanks"

I would take it off and drop it into a rad shop that does exchangers. They can check it out and renew what is needed if it is still good.
