"Hi All, Great site.
I have a 1969 Chrysler 210 in a Lyman where the temp always stayed at 150 once the engine was warmed up. It would go + or - 5 degrees max on either side of 150 no matter the conditions. The engine is cooled by raw water - one path to the engine, another to the reverse gear.
Recently, I noticed it was not pumping enough water and found the reverse gear/oil cooler was blocked. The blockage was cleared and it seems to be pumping enough now. At the same time, I ran fresh water through the engine ( into the thermostat housing and out at the water pump ) and the water seemed to run through fine.
Now, when I run the engine, water pumps out the exhaust just fine. The temp will stay at 150 during a run ( about 2500 RPM's ), however, it now runs up to 170 after throttling back. It then goes as low as 140, and eventually making it back to 150.
Does anyone know what would cause the temp to start doing this after clearing out the blockage ? Could there be blockage in the engine ? If so, how can it be removed ? Any suggestions would be great."
