chord in lower unit help

bought a 69 larson 85 hp recently. took off the lower unit to clean it up and a chord is connected to a something that im guessing controls shifting? I dont have any idea where this wire goes please help!!!!!

So you didn't disconnect the wires before removing the lower unit? Did they rip in two? Mighty expensive mistake ($200). Proper way to do it is disconnect the wires and tie a string to them to pull them back up into place when reinstalling.

Yes, it is the Hydro-Electric shift cable.

It appears as tho the chord pulled out of wherever it was connected at the top of the chord leaving both wires exposed. Can i not connect them again where they are supposed to be? Im inexperienced with boats as you can probably tell already. I watched videos on how to do it but none of them showed wires. And where are they supposed to be wired in at? The only way i see to run them up is thru where the shaft for the water pump is. Im at a loss.... please help!!

get a flashlight and look up in there, you'll see a hole that's just barely big enough for those wires. I did almost the same thing the first time I pulled my lower on mine which is also a hydroelectric shift. You can probably tape some 550 cord guts to a coat hanger and fish the string through from the top side and then maybe repair the connectors after you get the wires back through again.

The wires pulled out of the connectors right?

Green goes to green and blue goes to blue.---------You will find those wires at the back / near the bottom of the powerhead.

Where exactly tho? Does it run by the water lines? And where exactly do they connect? Thanks for your help guys. Ive looked for a place to reconnect them at but cant seem to locate them.

Push a fish of some sort down the hole from the top.--------Attach the wires and pull the wire in place when you re-install the unit.--------If this is all confusing , then run to your local boat shop.--------They may have an older tech that knows this.

I'm assuming yours is just like mine was. In that case they run up along the left side of the motor where the two actual connectors sit. In the future, disconnect them obviously. It's a tight spot on my motor and I doubt your is any better. You can see where the wires would've come out via the hole. Just look for two wires hanging.

Push sh come to shove, take it to a local marine store and ask them to point it out to you.

You can splice them if they are broken up beneath the hood. If broken within the exhaust housing they must be absolutely waterproof. Note the annular rings around the rubber cable. Those provide a seal where it goes through the hole.
