Ok one more time. I have to add a thermostat to my Chevy 409. It doesn't have one presently. I can't add one to the existing thermostat housing it will not accomdate one. I bought a thermostat housing on ebay it is actually for a 454. It will fit physically. Now my questions.
The top of the new housing has 2 1 1/4 hose outlets it also has a spot for a fitting above the thermostat. I believe this is for the bypass. I am planning to run a hose from here to a spot that already has a fitting on the water pump to provide circulation until the thermostat opens.
I have a 1/2 fresh system right now I'm not sure I'm ready to add the exhaust manfolds quite yet. I have done some extensive replumbing and I really have no diagrams to follow due to the age of the engine and the documentation I have isn't close to what I actually have. I'm looking for a sanity check before I drop this mess in the water.
Currently I have a 19.5" x 4" exchanger a hose goes from the exchanger to the bottom of the water pump a 5/8 heater hose goes from the water pump to the exchanger as well as a 1 1/4 hose from the thermo housing to the exchanger. The current housing cannot have a thermostat.
The new plumbing is as follows:
Same connection from HE to the lower water pump
the 5/8 connection on the water pump will go to a fitting on the new thermostat housing. I will run both outlets on the new housing back to the HE with a 1 1/4 hose. If this works I may replumb adding the exhaust manifolds if I get a little courage.
Does this make sense???????
