I am in the process of trying to un-seize a Mercruiser MCM228 (1983) 5L GM engine. The previous owner told me his son ran it out of water and the engine seized. It has been sitting for 2 years. If I am successful and get this thing to turn over what else else should I check and/or replace? I was trying to avoid removing the engine from the boat, but maybe I should if there are alot of additional things to service.

trying to un-seize a Mercruiser MCM228... ran it out of water and the engine seized. It has been sitting for 2 years.
You can try to do it...pull the spark plugs out and spray alot of PB Blaster into each hole and reinstall the plugs. Let it sit for several days. Good luck...basically it's a 30 yr old anchor.

if it seized from overheating, you're wasting your time...
Actually I don't need help with the un-seizimg part. I've already poured marvel mystery oil into each cylinder and am waiting a week to see if it worked. I was wondering if I am successful unseizing this engine what else needs to be done other than the normal tune-up stuff plus a compression test. I would like to avoid pulling the engine, but depending on the feedback I was wondering if pulling the engine is necessary.
