"Hey Guys,
Mercruiser 3.0/ Alpha 0ne. I recently relaced my impellor and I'm not happy with where the running temp is 180(deg.Constant, I've replaced the thermostat with 160 deg./replaced the seal at the end of the pick up tube, I suspect I'm getting air in my system somewhere and I seem to remember reading a post last year where you could check for Air. Any thoughts or have I been standing to close to the Smoker. Thanks"

Thermostat should be 143'

Thermostat should be 143' not 160

160 is used in a closed cooling system.

"I believe thats what I have, closed system that uses the fresh water to cool it/heat exchanger, I've heard that if there is an air leak allowing air to be brought into the freshwater part of the system that the engine will run hot, it ran much cooler before I replaced the impellor."

"One mistake I made was assuming the T stat I pulled out was the correct one, 160 deg., I going to install the correct one today, I'll let you know how it works. Thanks Kghost"

"After your done filling the closed cooling system with anti freeze water mix in the radiator cap, continue filling into the top most hose connection you can find. don't over fill to the point of spilling anti freeze all over the engine but you get the picture.

I learned that from this old guy who ran rad shop. He was the owner and only employee and he was always backed up with work but he was always willing to give good advice. I replaced a rad and thermostat in my truck once and couldn't figure out why it was still over heating. That did the trick because of air in my system. Unfortunately progrees forced him into retirement and to shut his shop down. now it's all condos and starbucks! Sometimes progree sucks!"
