Check engine light

on A 1996 Johnson oceanpro, when you turn the key before you trying starting, and after the aleam routine. Does the vacuum switch detect a leak then or after you try cranking it up?

The check engine lite is supposed to come on when you have a fuel restriction in the system when running the mtr mainly at wot. If it comes on at idle or without starting the mtr you may have a prob with the sender or the gauge.

I read some other articles and one said to disconnect the vacuum sensor, I tried that and the light still came on. Is there a way to test the gauge before spending alot of money on one?

there was a service tool for testing system check gauges offered to dealers in 1995 check with dealers that have been around since then they might still have one.why do you think you have a vacume problem???????
