Charging voltage?

So I am still not getting over 12v on my 87 mercury 115. I replaced the Stator and Rectifier. Appears to be no change.. Do these motors produce 13-14v on charging or did I just replace parts for fun?

a fully charged battery should read 12.7....then when you start the motor and go to 2k rpm the charge should exceed that...if you have a regulator while up and running it should read 14.8...if you have a rectifier only system it is not regulated and will exceed 14.8...do you have a tach on the boat and if so is it working?

I do have a tach. It was jumping around like crazy at first now it is smooth but it starts at like 1200RPM instead of 0RPM. So I replaced the rectifier from what I read could of caused this. Tach is still damaged but I knew that was going to stay damaged.. I am looking for a replacement.

what is the rectifier output now?was this tach working at one point ?are you putting together a rig or was everything working before?

I just got the boat and it had some issues. Still have to rebuild the carbs as they are overflowing and spitting gas/oil out the exhaust as well. But I assumed the charging system was not working as I never get over 12v. But my battery has yet to die from starting the motor either so maybe it is working?

You'd be surprised how many times you can fire an outboard up without recharging the battery.

If you see AC voltage across the two yellow wires, the stator may be okay. If so, the rectifier is shot.
