"hi,
is there a charging system for this on board, or will i have to add a gen. as offered under accs. kits.
thanks,

you need to find a donor motor

you need to find a donor motor ( 40hp electric shift 62-70 ) they all had a generator. Then you need to get the pulley for the flywheel. That is the path to take.E-BAY may have something as well.

"That engine runs on a magneto

"That engine runs on a magneto ignition system and incorporates no battery voltage draw except to momentarily energize the electric starter. A good battery would last quite a long time before requiring charging..... and since the engine has a manual starter, encountering a discharged battery should really present no major problem.

If on the other hand, you're concerned about having the battery fail due to accessory voltage demands (deph sounder, radio, running lights, etc), a by far more reasonable route would be to purchase an additional battery strictly for those purposes and a trickle charger to maintain its maximum voltage when not in use.

When time permits, visit my store (copy/paste) at: stores.ebay.com/Evinrude-Johnson-Outboard-Parts-etc?refid=store"

"hi,
the pulley is already there on the f/wheel as is the wiring, it appears to have had 1 at one time. i found 1 on ebay with the bracket, for $65, does that sound good? the seller says no way to test.
thanks,
j"

"To test, ground the "Fiel

"To test, ground the "Field" terminal (small generator terminal) to some part of the generator.

Attach a volt meter between the larger "Armature" generator terminal and ground.

Using a grindwheel that has a wire brush attached, hold the generator pulley against the wire brush so that the generator pulley rotates in the normal direction (clockwise when viewed from the top of the pulley).

A good generator will read 12 volts on the volt meter.

If good, $65.00 is a very fair price."

You also need a voltage regula

You also need a voltage regulator(not automotive type!) and the proper toothed belt. Any good Auto-Electric shop can test and set it up for you off the motor.
