Any reason this wouldnt work on a pull start 1986 4cyl 50hp merc? I would also need an alternator right?

I would say the kit is all you

I would say the kit is all you need.An outboard like your does not have a belt driven " alternator " but you do need a flywheel with magnets in it.You got the kit part # where.
