charging battery while driving

I was thinking about tying my boat battery in with my truck charging system.Just wondering if any one has ever tried this and it worked without problems to the car and or the boat battery. Or how about a solar system?

Solar system meant for long term slow rate charge. Charging from the vehicle will work but if your battery is bad and the vehicle not running it will drain your vehicle battery, maybe to the point of not starting.
 
the solar units work pretty good actually. Kept my batteries strong when I had a small leak that was killing by battery due to bilge running a lot.
