Changing the mounting stud on lower unit

Here's my latest question regarding my changing over from long shaft to short shaft on my 1980 Evinrude 25 HP motor. Everything has gone perfectly up until this point, except the old long stud on the rear of the lower unit won't come out. Obviously, I must get it out to install the short stud to complete the job. I'm afraid I will break it off or break the lower unit. Is it possible that it's a reverse thread? It should come out conventionally (counter clockwise) shouldn't it? I've thought about using the old automotive trick of using two nuts on the top end. How about putting a pipe wrench directly onto the old stud? Thanks for your help.

It should be a standard thread. You might have to use a little heat on it. Use vicegrips on the shaft of the stud and maybe some sort of penatraiting oil on the stud. If all else fails, use heat.

Thanks guys, got it out with the idea I had of using two nuts and taping until it came loose. Now I have everything together and now there's no water being expelled out of the "pee hole", so I have that to deal with that. Any ideas?

Is water coming out of the exhaust reliefs ?? If it is run a wire up the pee hole line as it may be pluged.
