"I have a 89-91 CV85hp Yamaha

"I have a 89-91 CV85hp Yamaha that I will be changing the water pump kit on this coming weekend. Are there any tips,tricks or must knows before I tackle this? I know that I will need drive shaft spline grease and lithium grease but where do I grease at?"

"another extremely good idea is to rotate the drive shaft in a clockwise direction as you lower the impeller housing onto the impeller, this makes sure all blades are seated in the correct direction of rotation. It dosnt hurt to use grease to locate the key onto the driveshaft, and a light smear inside the cup to help with initial start up, and as always should be practiced where ever possible, use a tank as apposed to muffs to test your water pump operation."

"Just keep the grease off the very top of the driveshaft - stick to the splines - grease on top can cause nasty things to happen to your crank shaft.

And if the lower unit gives you any trouble, yell at loudly and don't be afraid to swear at it - if it's afraid of you, it will co-operate

I will also be changing the spark plugs and lower unit oil while I have it on land. Thanks for all the advice!
