I have a Evinrude 28 E28ESLED

I have a Evinrude 28 E28ESLEDR long shaft and I also have a Johnson 25 J25REDA short shaft. I am going to change shafts. Is there anything I should avoid doing. What is the procedure?
Thanks Jerry

I also asked earlier about the 28hp is it a souped 25 or a dogged 30?

The 28 is actually the same powerhead as the 30. The "SPL" series was introduced to compete with the low priced Force outboards. OMC wanted to differenciate between the bargain priced SPL series and their premium priced outboards, thus the 28 SPL, 48 SPL and 88 SPL. All were the same as their counterpart, the 30, 50 and 90. The 28 did not have thru-prop exhaust or the newer style mid-section or gearcase, but the power was the same.

As far as swapping the lowers, I have been out of the outboard business for several years now, so I can't attest to the interchangability of your particular motors. You will still need to deal the water tube and shift shaft. If your long motor has the bolt in 5" housing extension you're in good shape, you can simply remove it. If it does not, they you are going to have problems.
Good luck. "
