"I just bought my first boat.
"I just bought my first boat. It has a 2003 50 hp mercury 2 stroke o.b. motor. I know I at least need to change the impeller, maybe even the whole water pump assembly, but Ive never done this before and I don't have a manual yet. I watched the video you guys sent me to (thats a great site) but Im alittle confused as to weither I have to loosen anything below the carb on this motor or just the five bolts and one nut at the trim tab. Also, should I expect to need any gaskets, seals, etc.? Will the lower 1/2 just fall out and slide right back in? Do I need to be in gear or neutral? Any tricks or secrets? I also want to change the gear oil, I believe I have to pump it in from the bottom because I only found one screw (marked "vent") at the top rather than two, and one at the bottom. If I have to pump it in from the bottom until it comes out the top, why can't I just pour it in from the top? How much and what type gear oil should I get? And last question for now, would the Seloc manual or original Mercury manual work best for me.
Thanks"
