Changing Gearcase Oil Problem

Trying to save a few dollars

Trying to save a few dollars by changing the gearcase oil on my 1997 60HP Evinrude I accidently
loosened the phillips screw thinking it was the drain plug. Once I found my mistake I put the philips screw back.

My question is by removing this screw did I cause any damage to my engine?

I now know that the drain plug is on the bottom.


How bad did I screw up? What must I do to correct it?
