"Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a new carb for my VP 570A (Chevy 350) as I've been told that mine may not get better after a kit is installed. My current carb is a 4BBL Holley list number 80309 with electric choke. A search on the web reveals it has a CFM of 715.
I'm struggling to find the same carb anywhere. Can I use a different CFM carb, and if yes, are there any other modifications I'll have to do?
Current carb won't idle constant, anywhere from 450rpm to 2000rpm, I think it's sucking air where the throttle lever is.
thanks
Lee."

"Lee, my carb should be simila

"Lee, my carb should be similar to yours (a 4 bbl 4150 Holley) which according to Seloc are 750 CFM. At least you found a number stamped in yours, but I have been unable to find one on mine. I got a rebuilding kit from Volvo and hopefully I will be overhauling mine within the next few weeks. If it doesn't work as I expect after rebuilding it, and if I cannot find a direct replacement, then I will be looking at the 0-80537 or the 0-9015-1, on page 60 (54 of 129) on the following link:

But before throwing yours away, remember that you can order parts from either Holley or VP."

Thanks El.

Thanks El.

With your link I've found the exact rebuild kit (703-45) I'd need. I've also found a "rebuilt" Holley with the same list number for around $250USD if mines no good.

I'm taking my Holley "715" to a bloke who rebuilds Holleys to have a look at it. Had a chat with him earlier today and he said he'll be able to tell within 10mins if the throttle arm housing is too worn for a rebuild.

Only worrying thing is that he said he'll have all the parts there and that there's no difference in a standard rebuild kit and a marine rebuild kit for a 4150...
Do you know if there's any truth to that?
thanks
Lee.

"Lee, if you look at the Holle

"Lee, if you look at the Holley charts there are many different repair kits for the 4150 carb depending on the application. And although most of the parts will likely be exchangeable, some may not (otherwise all kits would be identical). In my case, I chose to bite the bullet and bought the repair kit part 856188 from VP, as I suspect (not 100% sure) that the carb on my engine is original. Chances are that it is an identical but overpriced version of the 703-45 kit, but buying the original VP kit eliminates the guessing.

Again, if after rebuiding my carb it does not perform as expected, then it will be time for me to get a new one (or rebuilt)."
