Changing 470 heat exchanger gaskets

My front cap drips just a bit. I have new gaskets ready to go in. I am using Permatex Aviation Form A Gasket. My question is do both sides of the gasket get sealant or just the cap side?

My Merc manual (1986) for the 4" exchanger just says, install new gaskets and plug seals on cap bolts "if used". In the exploded view notes it states to Do NOT use "Quicksilver Perfect Seal" on the new gasket but that is should be use it on the exchanger drain plug. End cap bolt torque specs are 120-140 in-lbs (13.6-15.8 Nm)

I would still wait and see what some of the other members suggest as to real world experience with the caps and sealant on the gasket.
