Change shaft length

I have a lower unit from a 1971 650 engine that is 20 inch. i need a 15 inch shaft for my lower unit. Can I take the 20 inch shaft out and replace it with a 15 inch shaft/

Yes, you just need to find one and in good shape in the seal area.

Yes.----There is a nut on the bottom of the driveshaft.----Make sure you check shimming of pinion and gear position when you swap it out.

And put in ALL new seals. You can buy a kit here.
