"I just obtained a cd-25c johnson 6 horse from my grandfather inlaw. He did not know what the proper mixture for the fuel is anymore, so I wonder if you guys can help out. Also the pull starter rope broke and when I replaced the rope it wouldn't rewind anymore, any tips for fixing it?

Thanks"

CD-25 is a 1968 model

50:1 should be suitable for that

A manual will tell you how to replace the rope but basically you have to wind the spring up first. That's a bit difficult because you have to stop the pinion engaging with the flywheel. Then you hold it while you fit the new rope with the other pair of hands and then allow it to wind in the rope. Without a manual you have to try to judge how much short of fully wound up the spring must be.

I must admit I have not yet had to do it but I looked to see what was involved in case I have to one day.

Whatever you do don't unbolt anything that will let that spring escape. It's like a caged tiger waiting for someone to open the door.

"Thanks for the quick info. I

"Thanks for the quick info. I think some fresh gas and maybe a quick carb cleaning and this motor will purr.

My problem with the pull rope is there is no spring tention on it no matter how many times as well as which way I turn it. Is it possible that the spring broke or got dissengaged?

Thanks again,"

"Only if you unbolted it or so

"Only if you unbolted it or something along that nature. I'm assuming the engine is covered, if it broke then the spring would be somewhere in/ under the engine cover. Check down and around the bottom of the engine to see if you see any parts that look like a spring."

"Possibly broken or disengaged

"Possibly broken or disengaged. Go to THIS SITE or THIS SITE locate your engine by make, year, HP and model number then look at the "Carburation and Starter Group" diagram zoom in on it and you will see the exploded diagram of the starter components. That may help you figure out what is wrong.

I just noticed that the flywheel is designed to take a top mounting starter. You have not got one of those have you?"

"Got her going good today. su

"Got her going good today. sure it was on a sawhorse above a 25 gallon bucket but once she started she would start again with a light pull.

All it took was re-hooking the spring. Cleaning the plugs, and some elbow grease. Don't forget the half bottle of soap it took decreasing myself."
