Under what circumstances would you replace the core plugs? I have never done this on a carb rebuild. Any down-side?

"Martino,

The plugs are generally there to allow access to orifices or jets that might need to be cleaned.

There is no trick to it; just punch or drill a small hole in the plug and insert a stiff awl into the hole and pry the plug out.

To install a new plug just place it in the recess and tap the center with a wide punch until it flattens out. A little gasket sealer around the perimeter of the plug will seal any small air leaks.

"Martino,

It is a good idea to do this whenever you clean out the carbs.
