You may not need to mess with the floats - if they were running OK and not leaking to begin with then they are probably set OK. Provided the floats look good, simpler to just replace the needles/seats and stick with known-to-be-good floats. It's good to have a manual that describes what is mentioned above, however sometimes the manuals have bad information in them that is not pertinent to your engine too - so use common sense. What is trickier than setting floats though can be just finding just the right sized screwdriver to remove the jets ;)
